What is the perfect beach or lake destination for a family visiting the New England area in mid-July?
I personally love Cape Cod but ive never been to the other places that you have listed. I have heard the finger lakes are amazing as well. I actually am headed to Provincetown which is the furthest town on the cape. lots of good vibes, beautiful beaches on both sides of the cape, many delicious restaurants to choose from. I also loveeeee Nantucket! and if you haven't looked into going it would be worth it do at least a one night trip.

Bridgton, Maine is a wonderful town with lots of lake activities! It's pretty close to the New Hampshire border.

Where to find animal-friendly accommodations in New England?
Not sure where you live, but Provincetown, MA (tip of Cape Cod) is a great for couple o days and very dog friendly.

Hampton Beach, NH is really cute beach town. And Portland, ME is cute -- the lighthouse there is really cool.
